# wipe manga

```sh
manifold mal wipe manga [flags]
```

**Destructive.** Wipes the MAL **manga** list across every status, including
adult entries. Anime, profile content, privacy settings, and AniList are never
read or modified. No backup is created.

The command defaults to a dry run: it scans every manga-list page, reports the
account and count, and exits without deleting. `--apply` is the confirmation —
including in non-interactive runs. There is no yes/no prompt and no `--yes`
flag.

Authenticate first with [login mal](/cli/login/mal), or pass a token override.

## Flags

### `--apply`

Delete all scanned MAL manga list entries. Without this flag, the command only
scans and reports.

- Default: `false`

Example:

```sh
manifold mal wipe manga --apply --backup-paused
```

### `--backup-paused`

Acknowledge that every other MAL writer is paused or disconnected. **Required
with `--apply`.** This flag does not stop writers and does not override the API
connection check.

- Default: `false`

Example:

```sh
manifold mal wipe manga --apply --backup-paused
```

### `--mal-token <token>`

Optional MAL access token override. Prefer [login mal](/cli/login/mal)
(keychain) so refresh works. Falls back to `MANIFOLD_MAL_TOKEN`. A supplied
token does **not** refresh automatically.

Example:

```sh
manifold login mal
manifold mal wipe manga
```

### `--api-token <token>`

Personal API token used only for the backup-connection check against
`/v1/auth/mal`. Falls back to `MANIFOLD_TOKEN`.

Example:

```sh
manifold mal wipe manga --api-token "$MANIFOLD_TOKEN"
```

### `--api-origin <url>`

Personal API origin for the backup-connection check. Falls back to
`MANIFOLD_API_ORIGIN`.

- Default: `https://manifold.jfa.dev/api`

Example:

```sh
manifold mal wipe manga --api-origin https://manifold.example/api
```

## Usage

```sh
manifold login mal
manifold mal wipe manga
bun run manifold mal wipe manga --apply --backup-paused
```

## Before applying

1. Disconnect the Manifold API's MAL connection in admin Credentials.
2. Pause every other MAL writer and let in-flight writes finish.
3. When `MANIFOLD_TOKEN` is set, the command GETs `/v1/auth/mal` and **refuses
   `--apply`** while that connection remains active. `--backup-paused` does not
   bypass this check.
4. Without API credentials, the connection is not checked — verify writers
   yourself.

## Behaviour

- Scans every manga-list page (including adult entries) **before** any delete.
- Deletes sequentially with 1.5-second pacing.
- Progress bar shows count, percentage, elapsed time, and ETA.
- Retries HTTP 429 / 5xx at most three times; stops rather than waiting an
  unbounded `Retry-After`.
- After deletes, re-fetches the list and fails if any manga remain.
- A DELETE 404 means the entry is already gone.
- On failure, rerun the same command to scan and delete survivors (no checkpoint
  file).
- Keep writers disconnected until any subsequent import is finished;
  reconnecting can resume old backup operations.

An empty manga list exits cleanly. This command only clears MAL. Populate next
with [`migrate anilist-to-mal`](/cli/migrate/anilist-to-mal). It does not change
the tracker's primary provider.

> **Irreversible**
>
> This permanently removes every manga list entry on the signed-in MAL account. Prefer exporting or
> migrating first if you still need the data. Anime is untouched.
